"When I discovered the photograph shot by Karol Grabski of Lodzblab, as only existing colour photo of the Warsaw ghetto in flames, I was deeply affected with this image; the tragedy behind it was haunting. This captured moment was of great importance and I felt the need to recapture it. I wanted to stretch the time, extend the moment, so that we could grasp it. The animation technique provided a space in which we could try to imagine the time before and after the image was created. The moment is transient, you know what will happen, the sun will set even if you do not see it... But it is never too late to imagine a better outcome."
